FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We have gotten ALOT of questions over the past year as we have made preparations to set sail in the Land Yacht. Some of these questions we have answers to and others we are still figuring out. Here is a short list of some of the most common questions we get.
[accordion_item title=”Why“]A better questions is, “Why not?” The short answer is it’s simple, cheap & mobile. Ultimately we want a simpler life with time for family, friends and the work God is calling us to.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”How long do you plan on living in the Airstream?“]Our current plan is at least a year.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”Where are you going and where are you going to park your trailer?“]
Still working on this one… We plan to be in the NW about 6-months (April – September) out of the year for Outdoor School (a Outdoor Education Program Nick directs) and to lead out in our Community Garden. We have had friends offers us a place to park on their property and there are several long term RV sites in the Coeur d’Alene area.
The 6-months (October – March) we are away from the NW we would like to be on the road staying with friends & family when available or at various campgrounds and preferably some place warm.

[accordion_item title=”How do you make a living / pay the bills?“]The beauty about our lifestyle is it can be very affordable. We have no debt and we have a modest lifestyle so our income needs are minimal. This frees up our time & money to pursue work that matters and the ability to give.
So specifically we pay our bills by:
veggiemealmaker.com – Our vegetarian meal planning website.
Outdoor School – Nick directs an Outdoor Education program 3x’s per year.
teacherspayteachers.com – Shae makes/sells teacher lessons & resources on tpt.

[accordion_item title=”How long is your trailer? How many square feet?“]The Land Yacht is approximately 26’ or 195 square feet.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”How do you get your mail?“]We lease a mail box from a retail postage center that has a permanent address where we can have packages mailed to and the option to forward our mail / packages at any time.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”How do you connect to the internet?“]We have a mobile hotspot device and iphones whenever we can’t connect to public networks.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”What about health insurance?“]We have a high deductible health insurance plan coupled with an HSA (Health Savings Account). The high deductible plan is insurance against anything major (like cancer or anything else catestrophic) and we pay for everything else out of pocket from our HSA. We are young and healthy so this plan makes sense for us plus there is added tax / savings bonuses.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”Why an airstream? Why not a newer trailer with slideouts?“]Airstreams are well made, well designed and well known. Most travel trailers devalue like a rock. Besides liking the look and design of the Airstreams we wanted to make a wise investment. We chose to buy a fixer-upper Airstream that we could afford then add a little bit of cash and a bunch of sweat equity. When it comes time to sell the Land Yacht we will be able to conservatively double our money.[/accordion_item]
[accordion_item title=”Are you storing any of your stuff?“]Not really…we have sold all our major possessions. That said we do have a few boxes of keepsakes (love letters from yesteryear and pictures) that we are storing with family.[/accordion_item]
